Description
This needlework is from the Winterthur Museum American Decorative Arts Collection, and is stitched with silk threads on an ivory silk satin ground. It was worked between 1800 and 1805 in Salem, Massachusetts. It is possible that it was worked by a student at Mrs. Saunders and Miss Beach’s School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The colors are muted and subtle shades of green, blue, brown, pink, yellow, and ivory. Featured is a large, naturalistic and asymmetrical bouquet tied with a blue silk bow. The bouquet is probably based on a botanical print. The shading is exquisite, and is executed with satin, outline, and couching stitches. Our needlepoint canvas measures 12″ x 16″ on 14, 16 or 18 mesh mono deluxe needlepoint canvas. The Kit includes a very detailed stitch guide, the canvas in your choice of mesh, and all the silk threads needed for this canvas. Please indicate your mesh preference in the notes section at checkout.
