Severin Roesen was a Prussian-American painter known for his abundant fruit and flower still lifes, and is today recognized as one of the major American painters in that genre from the nineteenth century. This gorgeous, richly colored and richly detailed still life with bird nest is considered one of, if not, his masterpiece. In our eyes it looks like a photograph!
