The 175 rooms that is the DuPont mansion – and the acreage of beautiful botanical gardens – that are the Winterthur Museum can accommodate a lot of people. Our retreat however centers around you – your ability – your commitment and passion to needlepoint and is nearing the end of the registration period so that we can keep classes smaller in size for individualized attention.
It isn’t very often that you find a match made in heaven and when there is one – treasure it.
The Art Needlepoint Company was founded on the principle of art on needlepoint and the art of needlepoint.
The Winterthur Museum was founded from a similar passion. DuPont loved needlework especially needlework done by hand and there are literally hundreds of needlepoint and embroidery hundreds of years old that are in the collection – we will see a lot of needlepoint on a private tour that is not on permanent.or rotating display. This is a magical place and we will all have a great time.
There are tours and lectures – from historians and textile curators – and a private tour of needlepoint that is not on display carefully curated for us not seen by the general public.
Registration also includes sit down meals Saturday and Sunday, and a lively gathering Friday night with drinks and food.
Registration includes EVERYTHING including the materials you will be working on. Travel to and the Hotel are separate and not included in the total registration amount. If you are planning to stay overnight we will have a fabulous rate at the best hotel in the area and we will shuttle to and from hotel to the museum.
Each class has an emphasis, but all classes include embellishment, techniques for realistic effect and how to deal with particular threads. Some are focused on all the above and shading. You’ll learn how to effectively shade in a number of different ways with almost any thread.
