This needlework is from the Winterthur Museum American Decorative Arts Collection, and is stitched with silk threads on an ivory silk satin ground. It was worked between 1800 and 1805 in Salem, Massachusetts. It is possible that it was worked by a student at Mrs. Saunders and Miss Beach's School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The colors are muted and subtle shades of green, blue, brown, pink, yellow, and ivory. Featured is a large, naturalistic and asymmetrical bouquet tied with a blue silk bow. The bouquet is probably based on a botanical print. The shading is exquisite, and is executed with satin, outline, and couching stitches. Our needlepoint canvas measures 11.5" x 16" on 14, 16 or 18 mesh mono deluxe needlepoint canvas. We are partial to silk threads for this canvas, and we will be happy to select and all appropriate colors of silk or merino wool to help complete. Please indicate your mesh preference in the notes section at checkout. If you do not provide a preference, we will send the more popular 14 count. Please contact us if you would like for us to add your choice of fibers. Available in several alternate larger sizes.
